International Training of Trainers in Rimini

From October 12th to 18th, the city of Rimini in Italy hosted an International Training of Trainers within the Mind Over Screens project, bringing together 12 participants from the six partner countries: Italy, Slovakia, Finland, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. The training marked a significant milestone in the project’s mission to strengthen digital literacy, critical thinking, and online well-being among youth workers across Europe.

The 5-day Training was designed to equip trainers with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to guide young people through the complexities of today’s digital world. Hosted by YouNet APS, the training combined expert-led sessions, hands-on activities, and meaningful intercultural exchange, creating an inspiring learning environment from start to finish.

A Deep Dive into Digital Citizenship and Online Presence

The opening day set the tone for the entire week. Participants explored the foundations of the Mind Over Screens project and connected through interactive activities that fostered trust, curiosity, and collaboration. REBUS Albania led the first module on Digital Citizenship and Online Presence, encouraging participants to reflect on how we present ourselves online and how to support young people in navigating digital spaces with awareness and responsibility.

Strengthening Online Safety and Media Literacy

The following days delved deeper into essential digital competences. With the guidance of XAMK (Finland) and YouNet (Italy), participants explored Online Safety and Privacy Protection, learning how to recognize digital threats, safeguard personal data, and promote safer online environments.

This was followed by an engaging module on Critical Media Consumption, where participants sharpened their ability to identify misinformation, understand media manipulation, and foster critical thinking among young people. The discussions were lively, practical, and enriched by diverse perspectives from across Europe.

Digital Footprint, Wellness, and Self‑Care

Mladiinfo Montenegro and Youth for Equality (Slovakia) led two powerful sessions on Digital Footprint and Digital Wellness & Self‑Care. These modules encouraged participants to reflect on the long-term impact of online behaviour, the importance of intentional digital identity management, and the need to cultivate healthy, balanced relationships with technology. The activities sparked honest conversations about mental health, boundaries, and mindful screen use.

Empowerment, Advocacy, and Digital Rights

Day 4 focused on Empowerment and Digital Advocacy, guided by SVITAC from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through dynamic and creative exercises, participants explored how digital tools can be used not only safely, but also to advocate for digital rights, promote positive online communities, and inspire social change. The energy in the room was high, and the sense of purpose was palpable.

A Meaningful Conclusion to an Inspiring Week

As the training drew to a close, participants gathered for a certificate ceremony. The atmosphere was filled with gratitude, pride, and a shared sense of accomplishment. Over the course of the week, the group had not only gained new skills and knowledge, but also built strong connections, exchanged experiences, and created a supportive international network committed to digital well-being.

The International Training of Trainers stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit of the Mind Over Screens project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The insights shared, the tools explored, and the relationships formed in Rimini will continue to ripple outward as participants bring their learning back to their organisations and communities.
